4. Select AIX Shell Prompt.

can use full screen editors, for example if you are using an ibm3151 ASCII
terminal:

If problems persist, then you may require media to boot into Maintenance mode, or
you may have to restore the system.
10.3 Installation Problems
As previously mentioned, the installation and operation of AIX is very similar to that
of the microchannel-based RS/6000 systems. Most problems that arise will be able
to be solved using conventional methods.
10.3.1 AIX Boot Device Order List
There is a problem with the bootlist command on PCI-based RS/6000 systems
when using SCSI F/W devices. The problem occurs when running the bootlist
command on F/W devices with SCSI ID's greater than 9. The reason for the
problem is that AIX stores the devices in the NVRAM by using decimal notation.
The firmware on PCI-based RS/6000 systems, however, reads the devices using
hexadecimal. This results in SCSI IDs greater than 9 being read by the firmware
as their ID+6. For example, SCSI ID 10 is read as SCSI ID 16 (which can't exist).
The problem has been reported.
This problem particularly affects the F30 since devices in the hot-swap subsystem
are automatically assigned SCSI IDs from 8 to 13. This is the same for all three
banks in the F30. The bootlist command will not work correctly, therefore, in
disks stored in bays 3 to 6 in any of the banks.
This also affects the installation of AIX on disks in these bays since the installation
process will run the bootlist command to set the disk which has been installed to
be the first disk in the Boot Device Order List. If you install AIX to any of the disks
in bays 3 to 6 in any of the banks, you will have to use System Management
Services and edit the Boot List manually.
10.3.2 NIM Installation
When using a PCI-based RS/6000 system as a NIM Client, you have to use the
System Management Services programs to initiate the installation on the Client
machine (see 9.3, “Using a PCI-Based RS/6000 Server as a NIM Client” on
page 174). In System Management Services, you will have to provide IP Address
information regarding the NIM Client, the NIM Master and the Gateway. Be aware
that the Gateway IP Address is mandatory. If you are not using a Gateway between
the NIM Master and the NIM Client, the Gateway IP Address should be the same
as the Master IP Address.
